With Halloween looming Americans are adorning their homes with spooky décor and filling buckets up with sweet treats for all the neighborhood boys and girls.  While we’re fixing to make a real terrifying night, we are also inviting some frightful risk into our homes.  Don’t let this spook you, there are plenty of ways to make sure your home is ready for Halloween.

The evening hours can bring some unforeseen risk but some careful checks can help prepare you for a night of fright!  Be sure to walk your property and identify any potential hazards such as unsecured extension cords and debris in your walkways.  Be sure to not drape sheets or place any flammable material near any heat producing light bulbs.  Avoid daisy chaining extension cords and be sure to have all outdoor lighting plugged into GFI outlets.  As always make sure your paths are well lit, depending on your area many trick or treaters will be out in the evening hours.

If you’re planning to invite guests into your home this Halloween, whether it be for a haunted tour or some fun-sized snacks, contact your agent to be sure there are no gaps in your homeowners coverage and consider an umbrella policy for added protection.
